Well, I know I'm months and months if not years late in boarding the Grey Gardens fan-train, but now is better than never, right? I saw the musical last night because my sister's friend is in a very small production of it in Boston at the Lyric Theater. The story, the costumes, the comedy and the characters were absolutely captivating. I had heard of the HBO movie that Drew Barrymore is in, but I didn't really know much about the story. It is absolutely fascinating and I really recommend it. After seeing the play I immediately watched the HBO version and fell in LOVE with it. I'm usually not a huge Drew Barrymore fan, but she nailed that part. She's absolutely beautiful throughout the whole thing.

Anyways...I did a little research on the Beales and came up with a few cool photos from when Little Edie was young and threw in some others from the movie and documentary too.

The new Elizabeth and James pre-fall '09 line was released recently, and I've always loved their stuff, but these shoes in particular caught my attention. I already pre-ordered a pair of the calf hair moccasins. I love the laid-back style of all of their clothes.

To continue my rant about spring...I went shopping this weekend. Harvard Square has so many stores to choose from, and most of them have some fantastic pieces hidden somewhere in them. Stores like Urban and LF are just so packed with things that you really have to search for the good items. But, I decided to dedicate my entire Friday afternoon to mindless sifting through junk, and found some cool stuff.

These aren't all the things I got, just some of my favs. The first two dresses are both from LF, and are super short, but I'm just going to embrace the shortness. What's a dress that doesn't show a little leg?? The first dress is my favorite, but both are really summery and comfortable- done and done.

My hat in the 3rd picture is literally a Panama Jack hat that I bought for $6 in a pharmacy in Palm Beach- who knew pharmacys sold hats at all? Palm Beach truly is it's own breed of city.

I was cleaning my closet today so it'd be easier to move out of my dorm on moving day, and I came across the skirt in the 4th picture- how cute? I literally forgot I had it, but I absolutely love it.

The boots are from Forever 21, which usually I don't depend on too much for shoes, but I love these with a flowy sundress or some cut-offs.

Anyways, another beautiful day in Boston and the sunglasses and flip-flops have been kicked into high gear. Loving life.

IT IS BEAUTIFUL OUTSIDE. I've been outside all day. I went shopping, I sat by the river, I went for a walk and I actually enjoyed walking to a class that I had a test in. I got to wear my new Plenty dress and I got 3 new dresses from LF in the square. Successful day on all accounts.

If you're on the east coast and you're inside....what are you doing? It's officially springgggggg!!! Put on a short skirt and some cute flip flops and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Costume Jewelry

These are a few pieces of jewelry- not really costume jewelry I guess, but I like to call them that because they're my fun jewelry. I wore my pear necklace today and it broke...which I think is a sign that I wear it too much? Anyways....long necklaces and chunky bracelets are a staple in my wardrobe.

Both of these bracelets are Kenneth Jay Lane. One's a giraffe and the other is an elephant...I have no idea why I love having animals in my jewelry, but over the years I've ended up collecting so many pieces that are just random objects. I think they're the perfect thing to make a boring outfit more exciting.

The peacock is the newest, and I think right now it's my favorite. I have more on my wishlist, but do you think at a certain point you can have too many animals on your jewelry box? Kiiinda weird, but I like it. It's like I have my own personal zoo. Apparently when I was little I was obsessed with plastic animals, so I guess this is my way of satisfying that weird obsession as an adult.

Little White Dress

This was the cover for the March '09 issue of Fashion Boston- totally made me fall in love with the magazine. I've always thought that ballerinas got to wear the best outfits (Tu-tus and slippers?? Does it get better?) But this take on the "LWD" -little white dress, made for a perfect spread in this issue. The hair, the dancer, the studio, the lighting. the pointe slippers...so perfect. They even used a real dancer from the Boston Ballet to model.

Got this gem of a scarf in the mail yesterday from Forever 21. I think that scarves are the ultimate accessory. I've been experimenting with different ways to wear a scarf and honestly the options are limitless. The way you tie it can make or break your entire look. I used to think if a it was too long or short that you couldn't wear it, but the longer you fool around with the way you drape it or tie it, the better your chances are of finding a kick-ass look.

So, next time you see a pattern you love on a scarf that looks crazy short or long...get it anyways. Chances are, you'll figure it out. More looks with scarves from around the web:

bam. that is a Frida Kahlo mirror purchased by mi hermana in shady Cancun, Mexico. For those of you who don't know Frida, you obviously never took introductory spanish in middle school, high school, or college. I know this chick's tormented, broken, sad and weirdly inspiring life inside and out. And now, when I look in the mirror in my common room, I'll be reminded that eyebrow-waxing exists so that I don't have to endure the serious unibrow that our girl Frida rocked all 47 years of her life. So, here's to you, Frida. You not only provide me with countless A's on spanish papers and tests, but you remind us that even an icon like you can't make a unibrow a trend. Valient effort, par for the course.

MICHAEL KORS SHOES

So I bought these pairs recently. I can't say which ones I like more, because I've been eyeing both for weeks and weeks. AND I didn't buy either pair online...which is huge for me.

These pictures aren't the greatest I know, but hey I never said I was a photographer.

Sooo summary of the cutouts:

Unlike most wooden heels I've owned, these are actually surprisingly comfortable. I have yet to wear them for a long period of time, and I'm guessing it won't be entirely pleasant. Anyways. They're not tight around the ankle, the heel isn't too thin, and I know I can get through at least 20 minutes pain-free. Conclusion: beauty is pain-free.

Summary of the backless booties:

As I've said before, I have an obsession with booties in general, and these are a fabulous variation. They're peep-toed and the strap in the back is elastic- another comfort-plus. I've decided that these work all year round too, because they're black and suede for winter, but they're peep-toed and backless for summer...perf.

All in all, now instead of picturing a pudgy, orange, sunglasses-wearing judge on Project Runway when I hear the name "Michael Kors," I'll think of these 2 fabulous additions to my shoe family.

Wishlist April '09

So most of these items are from shopbop, but that's inevitable. Shopbop speaks my language, and I don't and will never deny it. There aren't that many things because I didn't want to overwhelm, and believe me there could be a lot more. But these are the things I would get if I absolutely had to choose 11 items....which could totally happen I know.

Anyways- here's what they are if you're interested too.

1. Marc by Marc over-the-body Handbag $178.00 Shopbop.com

So I've been into the over-the-body bag for like a month now? But I still haven't gotten one because I'm anal. I found a perfect one at Barney's in NYC but it was literally $500, and I decided that I could probably find a cheaper one somewhere in the world. Then I found a great one in Forever 21 (the promise land) for like $15 but it was the wrong color. SOOO now I found this one- and I think I'm gonna do it. I like the color, it also comes in gray, which I'm thinking about. I have to ponder it a little more though. Plus, my super shopping spree weekend did enough damage that a little bag for almost $200 coooould put me over the edge. Whatevah, if it's meant to be, it's meant to be. And in my opinion, I'm incomplete without this bad boy.

2. Yellow Converse High Tops $45 AmericanAthletics.com

These are random, but there's this pair of completely hot legs on the White Tie Affair album cover (they sing "candle"), and the legs are wearing these shoes and I, ever the target of popular consumer advertisement, have embraced the fact that I am pathetic. I think they're cool, and you can never have enough chucks. Done and done.

3. "Kate Moss Housedress" $50 Modcloth.com

Much like the converse situation, I pretty much only want this dress because it looks like the one Gabriella wears (in HSM3...if you don't know what that stands for....I don't even know what to say.) in the "Can I Have This Dance" scene. Definitely inappropriately short for a disney movie, but her wardrobe is absolutely adorable, and that dress was my fav. I couldn't find the exact one, and this is the closet I've gotten in my endless search. Pretty good deal too if you ask me. For those of you who haven't heard of modcloth.com- definitely check it out. Awesome vintage and vintage-inspired items.

4. Twelfth St. Strapless Dress $350 Shopbop.com

Honestly I love this dress, I think it's adorable and versatile, but let's be serious. $350? Not happening, I think it's time to delete this one off of the WL. And it's been there for like 4 months too...breaking up is hard to do.

5. Sunner Combo Dress $273 Shopbop.com

What sells this dress for me is the back- sorry I didn't include it, but I'm too lazy to change it now so go look for yourself on shopbop. Bottom line- high waisted skirt without the effort of finding a cute shirt to match it? Done. A high waist skirt doesn't look bad on ANYONE. Fact. Worth all 273.

6. Nanette Lepore Tribal Jacket $300 Shopbop.com

So I'm kind of into blazers right now, and I only really have one cute one from Alexander Wang. This jacket isn't really a blazer, but the detail is absolutely stunning. It's subtle and it buttons and it flares at the bottom. All signs point to working- only problem is the price...and the kicker is that it's on sale- used to be $425..eeeyikes.

7. Frye Ankle High Heel Bootie $248 Shopbop.com

Frye is God's gift to shopping and feet, and if these booties are anything like my other Frye boots, I would love them unconditionally and wear them entirely too often. I know they look uncomfortable, and Frye is usually biker-chick-esque, and they're really simply, but there's something in me that's screaming "FABULOUS INVESTMENT." And that may be my secret love of all booties in general, but it may also be the fact that my Dad still has his Frye boots from like the 16th century- all signs point to durability.

8. Ray-Ban Clubmasters $140 Shopbop.com

I'll never buy these because I can probably find virtually the same thing at F-21 for like 10 bucks, but I think they're sweet. Plus, buying sunglasses online is questionable.

9. LaROK Level Miniskirt $200 Shopbop.com

Another unrealistic wishlist item, but again, high waist skirts don't look bad on ANYONE. Even if they're tight (helloooo spanx?). Anyways, I dig this and if wearing a skirt that kind of made you look like a dominatrix was appropriate office/college-wear, I would probably buy it.

10. 7 Boot-Cut Jean $200 Shopbop.com

I, like every other female on the planet, am in constant search of the perfect pair of jeans. And don't get me wrong, I have a few winners, but you literally can never have enough. A good pair of jeans is the perfect mood-lifter and looks good with everything you put with it. Whether it be a 10 year old sweatshirt or a brand new top, good jeans are always dependable to be comfortable, while still making your ass look great.

11. MYSTERY SKIRT FROM TOPSHOP

So this skirt has a story behind it. And I have a bone to pick with Topshop. Over spring break I was reading a current issue of Vogue, and on the "bargain" page or something, this skirt was featured and advertised on topshop. HOWEVER. After a long and hard search, the skirt can be found in the lookbook, and only in the lookbook, for Spring '09 for Witchcraft. It's not listed under the items for the look, and you can't even see where you can buy it or who makes it. It. is.a mystery. I am in love with it, I have dreams about it, I want to wear it, I have daydreams about what to pair it with and what shoes to rock with it. But to avail. Who knows if it really exists.

Celeb Style

Obviously I'm obsessed with celebrity lifestyle, but the best part is the fashion. I think it's weird how celebrities can wear something so ridiculous and/or ugly (at the time) and turn it into the next "it" item. The first time Katie Holmes wore the boyfriend jeans everyone thought she was crazy. Anywaaaays- for my first entry I was trying to think of a celebrity who always wears what she wants to, and the first person to come to mind was Rachel Bilson. She's kind of under the radar, but I almost always love what she does with her clothes and how she puts together pieces. I don't really remember her style in the OC days (which was obviously when I fell in love with her), but ever since it ended (has she done anything noteworthy other than dating Hayden Christensen??)- she's been one of my favorite style icons.
